The brain child of Chris Nevel in 2012, the Furry Friends Film Festival fundraiser for the Blue Ridge Humane Society returns for a third year.

The headliner this year is a remake of the Seinfeld episode “The Opposite,” in which a down-on-his-luck George Costanza reverses his fortunes by doing the complete opposite of all his natural instincts, everything from dating to job interviews. And, of course, my version revolves all around beer.

The hilarious 10-minute parody was filmed and produced by professional videographer Charlie Cutler, and stars several well-known local personalities, including two top-ranking government officials.

The Opposite is one of several short (5 to 7 minute) films to be screened, including two music videos featuring stunning GoPro footage of my two trips to southern Utah this year, set to inspirational music, and a fun 5-minute documentary of the Great American Beer Festival in Denver.

There will be beer and wine for purchase from the good folks at Southern Appalachian Brewery, plus hot food for sale from the always delicious Farm to Fender food truck. We’ll also have another raffle with multiple prizes from area businesses, several 1-liter flip-top bottles of 2005 Cold Mountain Winter Ale, and even a mixed vertical 6-year 6-pack of 2009-2014 Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barley Wine Style Ale.

There will be a social hour from 6 to 7 p.m., and the program will go from 7 to 8.

There will be two showings: One on Monday, Jan. 26 and the other on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Tickets for either night are $10 per person, and can be purchased in person by cash or check at Wag! A Unique Pet Boutique (828-697-7799) and Southern Appalachian Brewery (828-684-1235) in Hendersonville.

Last year the first night sold out in a week, so don’t wait!

All proceeds will be donated to the Humane Society.
