It all starts with the bass and the drums. Jake Wolf and Robin Tolleson have been playing together since 2007, and the music they create combines ambient, down-tempo grooves, mash-ups from the worlds of pop, jazz, rock and funk, intertwining layers of bass loops and percussion, occasional vocals and vinyl-driven turntable interludes. Boston-born bassist Wolf studied music in Oregon and in the San Francisco Bay Area with bassist Kai Eckhardt and at the Ali Akbar Khan School before landing in Asheville, where he has performed with numerous acts including Cabo Verde, Peggy Ratusz, Hipbones, the Juan Benavides Trio, and most recently with Billy Cardine and River Guerguerian in The Billy Sea. Percussionist/dj/vocalist Robin Tolleson studied with Grammy-winning drummer and producer Narada Michael Walden in San Francisco, where he founded the psychedelic funk trio Hipbones in 1993. Since moving to western North Carolina in 2000, his drumming has been featured
in popular local groups Big Block Dodge, Cabo Verde, and The Secret B-Sides.
