A note from Jason:  I hope everyone is staying healthy and safe at this time. In the spirit of self-quarantining and social distancing, I am proud to present something that has occupied most of the last 72 hours for me…………..and I am not really sure what to call it! But here’s what it is:
Beginning tonight (Wednesday March 25) until the pandemic ends and our local breweries, restaurants and other music venues reopen, I will be putting together a recorded performance for both Jazz Night at SAB (Southern Appalachian Brewery) and Jazz Mondays at OWB West. It’s been a lot of work (especially for someone as technologically challenged as me), but I figured out a way to create the closest thing to a live ensemble performance without actually having to be in the same room as the other performers.
The end result is a prerecorded “performance” where each of the musicians play their individual part, and then I later synchronize them. Obviously, this approach requires a great deal of planning, so some of the spontaneity of a live setting is lost. However, it is my hope that, in the absence of live music during this pandemic, this prerecorded method will suffice.
To kick things off, the first virtual version of Jazz Night at SAB will feature the Bob Strain Trio. This performance is a set of all original music by Bob Strain (piano), accompanied by Connor Law (bass), and me (drums, vibraphone). Many, many thanks to both Bob Strain for sharing his beautiful compositions and playing piano, and to Connor Law for both playing bass and assisting me with the video editing (he did the video editing for half of the tracks, which was an enormous help for me!).
The concert is free, and can be viewed starting tonight at 6:30 PM at the following link:
The songs are ordered the way we would perform them live as a set. However, you can also listen in any order you would like, and listen as many times to each song as you would like!
As mentioned last week (during the garage live stream), the main reason I am doing this is to support both Southern Appalachian Brewery and the Jazz musicians in our local scene during this pandemic. The concert is free, but if you would like to make a donation to either SAB or the musicians, please see the links below:
To make a donation to the brewery, please click the blue “Shop Now” button in the upper right hand corner of the following page: https://www.facebook.com/southernappalachianbrewery/

Cheers and thank you so much for your continued support!
